[Intro] First (mini) sooda
Hi from a Koreana living in NYC
As most things in life go, this newsletter has been created over months of overthinking and minutes of writing.
Here it goes…
What does sooda even mean?
Sooda is a Korean word for “chatter.” The kind of chatter where you’re slouched over some overpriced latte or an aperol with a friend. The kind where you have to lean over the restaurant table to catch every word and end up talking til the store closes. It’s a kind of conversation where as the posture gets worse, the dialogue gets better.
A good sooda with friends is one of the greatest joys of my life. Here’s to creating them in writing!
Who’s talking?
I’m a 24-year-old Korean human living in NYC. I have some random lores from my life that span across South Korea, Australia, American New England and more. Naturally, talking about cultural differences around the world and living in it as a young-ish woman became crucial to me.
I love well-designed magazines, restaurants without a line, and impromptu trips.
What are we chatting about (and how often)?
I’m figuring these out as I go. But here’s what I know right now: I’ll be posting biweekly (fingers crossed), mainly about conversations and musings I had at the intersection of culture, consummerism, and art.
May or may not include some attempts at short-form fiction.
I’m so glad you found your way here!
Love,
Dajung
